With profound sadness and sorrow I just read about your mom in the Jewish bulletin and your loss. My memory had faded and I Spent the time — trying to remember A wonderful friendship that got Lost many years ago. My sons, Jeff and Greg and daughter, jackie All remember Selma’s boys. I do remember treasuring Selma ‘s Friendship. I have pictures of both Boys in birthday parties . I CANNOT remember why all ceased. Did the family move away? From the the very first moment of meeting Selma, I knew I had a new friend! Selma had the kindest heart, a big smile, and always had a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room! She was so easy to talk with, and we would always laugh together! In her later years, which is when I got to know her, she would often times be with Steve, her son, who would take such good care of her. We got to celebrate holidays together. My highlight was a community Passover seder that we celebrated together! We hosted around 100 people on that night, but I distinctly have a memory with Selma on that evening. I even asked her how many seders she has been to, and she thought for a moment and said, "Oh, about 85." I don't think I I met anyone old enough to have been to that many Passover seders. Several days after that lovely evening together, I received the most delightful and warm card, which I am attaching here. Every word in it is so Selma! Thoughtful, caring warm, kind & filled with compliments. Wishing the whole family my deepest condolences and prayers that you should have strength to get through this difficult time, and know that her presence will always be here! I feel so blessed to have known her, and I feel, as I continue my friendship with her children and family, I connect with her too! Boruch Dayan Haemet. May her memory be a blessing, Rabbi Landa

Selma Small was not only my mother in law. She was also my dearest friend. From the moment we met, Selma welcomed me with love into her family. Selma was gracious, kind and also very strong. She battled a terrible accident many years ago, and she fought with everything she had to rehabilitate and be with us. Selma loved to shop, she loved to cook, and she loved to travel. I have wonderful memories of our adventures to Calistoga, San Luis Obispo, Sedona and Hawaii. She loved traveling to Italy, but most of all she loved her friends and family. When I think of her she is vibrant and beautiful with her signature red nails and red lipstick, and she is on wearing a beautiful silk scarf. Thank you Selma for being the best mother in law a girl could wish for, and thank you for being the dearest friend. I will miss you, and I will cherish your memory.

Selma was the embodiment of warmth and love. She always made me feel as if she was so happy to see me and was genuinely interested in me and and my family. I know my father cherished his relationship with his cousin Selma and always spoke so highly of her. I feel so lucky to have been part of her family for as long as I did. Sending my condolences to you all. May her memory be a blessing to you. Her incredible legacy lives on through you. Much love.
